May Day Celebrations - 26.5.17

Well done to all of the children for their fantastic dancing in our May Day celebrations this morning. Everybody worked as a team and remembered more than one routine. We all came to school dressed in smart clothes. Our May King was William B and our queen was Delilah.

Today in celebration assembly all the children who ran in the Fun Run last weekend proudly wore their medals.

We have been geographers this week. On Tuesday we went on a village walk to identify different types of buildings on Redbourn highstreet. After collecting our data, we made maps of the highstreet and colour coded buildings by using a key. We decided that the highstreet now has lots of shops because Redbourn is growing in population.

Home learning is to keep a record of what you get up to over the holidays as well as learning lines for our Year 2 play if you have a speaking part. Have a safe and enjoyable half term and see you back in school on Tuesday 6th June.

Walk to school week - 19.5.17

Well done to all of the children who have walked to school this week, even in the pouring rain! Unfortunately our village walk was cancelled today due to the weather but we will be rearranging this for a day next week.

Maple Class are still loving Percy the Park Keeper books so this week we used descriptive language to write a character description of Percy. Mrs O worked with small groups of children to create illustrations of the characters using watercolours. We have made a lovely new English display with all of the wonderful work.

We are continuing to practise our dances for May Day celebrations. Please do come and watch us next Friday.

Well done to Lola who is star of the week for taking her learning forward during Learning Through Play. Jamie is spending the weekend with Night for thinking carefully and improving his work.

It's been lovely to hear Erin and Kiki playing the piano during celebration assembly the last two weeks - well done girls! Maple Class were very proud.

It's the fun run on Sunday - let's hope for sunshine!

Book Review Week - 12.5.17

This week we have been continuing to read Percy the Park Keeper books from Nick Butterworth's collection. We had a vote and decided that 'After the Storm' was our favourite so far so we wrote a book review based around this story. We thought about our favourite part of the story, who we would recommend it to and also how we might change the story to make it even better.

In Maths, we have been learning how to subtract using an empty number line.

We can't wait for the school disco tonight!

Well done to Nat for getting Star of the Week for being a fantastic friend. Night is spending the weekend with Freddie.

Remember next week is Walk to school week!

Fractions - 5.5.17

We have been learning to find a fraction of a number this week in Maths. We've applied our division strategies to find halves, quarters and thirds of a number. We've been practising to recall our halves and learnt that we can mentally quarter by halving and halving again.

In English, we wrote letters to Rickmansworth Waterway Trust thanking them for our trip. We hope to get a reply!

We've been perfecting our country dancing this week and can't wait to show you on May Day. This week we started to learn our maypole dance.

Congratulations to Isabelle who has taken Night home and Alice is Star of the Week.

Date for the diary: Next Wednesday is class photos.
